Zitshalele Outreach Programme

We followed the journey of Mlungisi Mathebe, a former ex-offender that has turned over a new leaf. Mathebe is passionate about uplifting his community. During his stay in prison, he acquired a qualification in horticulture, and he now lectures on horticulture through his NPO, Zitshalele Outreach Programme. He also empowers young men in his community by mentoring them and encouraging them to not go down the same path he went through.

From providing job opportunities to sponsoring young athletes, Mlindelwa Tyekana, also known as ManB; is a selfless individual who is dedicated to uplifting his community. He's also a crusader against crime and a generous giver to those in need.

Young Musicians

Jessica Tamara and Romo, are both young and emerging creative artists in South Africa.  They share their journey in the music industry and the approach to balancing the creative pursuits with a corporate career. 

Drug Abuse

This episode looks at the grim reality of drug and alcohol abuse that is right in the homes of many in the world. We follow the following organisations Sukuma Lucha, toughest young minds, Lesedi la batja and Indibano who have taken it upon themselves to fight against the substance abuse which has destroyed many communities.

Tears Foundation

Tears Foundation was founded by Mara Glennie in 2012. TEARS is a women-led, Non-Profit Organization that provides access to crisis intervention, advocacy, counselling, and prevention education services for those impacted by rape, domestic violence, and child sexual abuse, through the various TEARS tech portals. Mara Glennie survived a life-threatening event involving grievous bodily harm. She aims to enable victims of rape and sexual abuse to find the assistance, comfort and compassion they need when faced with a similar situation.

Safety in the e-Hailing industry

In this particular episode of Stories Untold, we focus on local public transportation. In 2013, South Africa introduced to its first e-hailing service, which seemed like the crack of dawn for many pedestrians in the country. Despite the convenience that comes with the e-hailing industry, e-hailing drivers find themselves in compromised positions in terms of their safety and profits. Before the introduction of e-hailing services in South Africa, metered taxis were the sole providers of on-demand transport services to the general public. The introduction of e-hailing in South Africa caused a lot of friction between e-hailing drivers and metered taxi drivers. E-Hailing Partners Council (EPCO) is an organisation that was formed in 2022 to empower drivers in the e-hailing industry.

Ruya Foundation

We take a look at different individuals and organisation brining meaningful change in the community, we firstly explore with a famer Lefuno Mamathuntsha who specialises in fish farming from the comfort of his home in Soweto. We further explore the Ruya Foundation which is helping children in underprivileged communities with its vision Lastly, Ntate Molifi from Soweto has a passion for agriculture, what started as a garden school project ended up as a great opportunity for him to start a business and grow crops to feed his community

Empowering Johannesburg's Youth Through Arts and Aftercare Support

The episode focuses on an aftercare school Centre called Lalela in Johannesburg. Lalela provides educational arts to children in grades 1 through 12 and offers a safe space during vulnerable after-school hours and holiday periods.
