Nombulelo Mado remembers the apartheid era, as an era that was very difficult and had a lot of violence. She narrates how movement was restricted in those days. uMama is a Church leader, of Heavenly Soldiers and Prayer Warriors. She is a women of faith and leads with prayer. She is a community developer, not only for her church members. But the community at large. She provides food parcels for the needy families for church members and community members. On Saturdays she runs a soup kitchen for any community members that are needing food support. She is about bringing hope to the hopeless in the community. She also has a heart for children. She collects the children in the community. And offers programs for them are spiritual, fun and educational. She provides a space for children to be children and gives them an opportunity to be away from their daily challenges of poverty. When they go home, she intentionally hands over food parcels for them to take home. Over and above the meals and snacks provided for them in church.
Nandipha Ngoqo has dedicated her life to serving her community. During apartheid, she and her family risked their livelihoods by providing shelter and support to anti-apartheid activists, including Siphiwo Mthimkhulu of the Black Consciousness Movement. Her work as a social worker further strengthened her passion for helping others. Today, she continues to make a difference in Motherwell through her soup kitchen, providing food and clothing to children, adults and elderly community members twice a week.
