A 29 year-old man is expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court soon in connection with the rape of an 89-year old woman at   Nyavani village in Limpopo.  Police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says the suspect entered a room where the woman was sleeping. When the elderly woman told him that she did not have any money, he allegedly raped her.   Mashaba says the suspect fell asleep after the rape and the woman called community members for help. With the country marking 32 years of democracy, freedom fighter and uMkhonto we Sizwe Liberation War Veteran, Masingita Maakana, has dim view about the country's democratic dispensation. Maakana from Mafarana village outside Tzaneen in Limpopo, says political independence hasn't translated into economic freedom. Maakana says the democratic system that the country has adopted in 1994 has drifted from the ideals that he and his comrades fought for. Maakana joined the MK at a young age and was later incorporated into the SANDF in 1994. He believes that political independence does not reflect economic freedom for ordinary South Africans. Four people have been killed in a collision between a car and a bus in Sekgosese outside Tzaneen in Limpopo. The deceased are three men and a woman who were occupants of a car in the crash which happened in the early hours of this morning. The bus driver who was travelling alone was injured. A person has been killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between two sedans on N1 between Mokopane and Polokwane in Limpopo. A 35-year-old Limpopo traffic officer has been arrested for alleged corruption on the Matlala Road outside Polokwane. Community stakeholders had until yesterday to submit input on the draft. The executive mayor wants to work with the local municipality to identifying and report illegal connections and water theft. It is expected that Minister of Water and Sanitation Pemmy Majodina will meet with the communities before the end of next month to present their findings of the ministerial independent investigation into alleged illegal blockages of tributaries feeding the dam. Four malaria deaths and 858 cases have been reported in Mpumalanga since the beginning of the year. Healtlh MEC Sasekan iManzini says Nkomazi, east of Malelane, is one of the malaria affected zones in the province. The area experience devastating floods in January. Recent floods have created favourable conditions for mosquito breeding. The province is commemorating the World Malaria Day in KwaMhlushwa with a focus on accelerating elimination efforts. Gauteng has recorded 141 confirmed cases and eleven deaths. MEC Manzini has called for cross border collaboration to curb the transmission of the disease . Rise Mzansi MP, Makashule Gana has called on National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, to ask to be put on leave, rather than wait to be suspended by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Masemola appeared in the Pretoria magistrates court on Tuesday facing charged of contravening the Public Finance Management Act. This is for the 360-million rand SAPS health services tender awarded to alleged criminal cartel member, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala's company. Parliament's Police Committee Chairperson Ian Cameron has called on the President to immediately suspend Masemola but Gana believes this can be avoided. Swiphemu swin'wani swa xifundzhankulu xa Mpumalanga swi khumbiwile hi timpfula ta matimba leti nga eku neni.

The embattled Nkomazi Municipality is assessing the extend of the damage caused by a freak storm in Mbuzini east of Malelane. The hailstorm's trail of destruction has left families in six villages destitute. More than 250 households have been damaged. It is the second devastating storm in three months for this municipality. In January five people died, when heavy rainfall caused significant damage to homes, schools  clinics and other properties. On Monday, a hail storm coupled with strong winds left a trail of destruction, damaging houses and leaving many families without a roof over their heads. Some of the affected residents are pensioners, who cannot afford to repair their houses. Nkomazi Municipal spokesperson, Cyril Ripinga says officials are still assessing the extend of the damage.
