The parade, attended by Premier Thami Ntuli and acting Provincial Police Commissioner Major General Phumelele Makoba, is aimed at showcasing the province's readiness to maintain law and order during the planned marches. Deputy Police Minister, Cassel Mathale, has told police officers in Bloemfontein in the Free State to deal decisively with undocumented foreign nationals. He says South Africa is not a playground for criminality and that police have to protect South Africans who will be marching on 30 June. He was speaking at the parade held at Bobbies Park in Bloemfontein to kick off security operations ahead of expected marches on Tuesday. Mathale says he wants to debunk the belief that police are reinforcing security against South Africans.

INTRO: The Department of Home Affairs says most foreign nationals who are in South Africa illegally did not enter through porous borders. Instead, they arrived legally but remained in the country after their permits expired. The department says says many foreign nationals use provisions of the Refugees Act to avoid deportation when authorities attempt to enforce immigration laws. Speaking at a summit on undocumented foreign nationals in Durban, Home Affairs chief director - Sihle Mthiyane - has said South Africa does not have a refugee crisis, noting that fewer than 150-thousand people currently have refugee status in the country. The Siyafana Sonke Action Campaign met with representatives from the Presidency and the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster on Thursday evening, where it demanded urgent intervention ahead of the June 30 deadline being pushed by anti-migrant groups. The campaign said the meeting exposed what it described as a "woefully inadequate" state response, particularly on the humanitarian crisis facing migrants who have fled their homes in fear of violence. The meeting was attended by a national delegation from Siyafana Sonke coalition members, led by activist Mametlwe Sebei, and representatives from the departments of Justice and Constitutional Development, Home Affairs, Education, Defence and Military Veterans, and Labour. The group known as vaTsonga Machangana hope the public are aware of them being South African citizens, as well. They marched to the Offices of the Human Rights Commission in Parktown to hand over a memorandum of demands. The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration has announced plans to expand the jurisdiction of the Musina Refugee Reception Office in Limpopo to include the verification of foreign nationals. This is to expedite the deportation and repatriation processes amid rising tensions over illegal immigration. The committee has briefed in Pretoria on its approach to migration management. Committee chairperson and Justice Minister, Mamoloko Kubayi, says as of yesterday, over 15-thousand Malawian nationals had been processed for deportation and repatriations.
