The South African Democratic Teachers' Union says gender-based violence has reached crisis levels, backing government's declaration of GBV as a national disaster. The union warns that without urgent, coordinated action, women and children will continue to face violence in homes, schools and communities. SADTU says teachers are on the frontline of confronting harmful patriarchal norms that fuel GBV. The Department of Basic Education has launched its first Mother Tongue-Based Bilingual Education assessments for Grade 4 learners. The NPA male officials led the silent walk as a symbol for men to take the lead in protecting women and children. Victims and survivors of Gender-Based-Violence were remembered during the candle light ceremony. As Gender-Based-Violence and Femicide has been declared the country's second pandemic, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared it a national disaster. Meanwhie the NPA has established Thuthuzela Care Centres, one stop facilities for victims of gender-based-violence and sexual assault in different areas. Due to concerns, government has launched the 16 Days Campaign, an international campaign to challenge violence against women and children, which runs from November 25 to the 10th of December every year. President Cyril Ramaphosa says the G20 Summit Leaders' Declaration adopted in South Africa is a commitment to improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable people across the world. This came out during his closing remarks of the two day meeting of the leading and emerging economies held at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg this afternoon. Ramaphosa also used the occassion to handover the G20 leadership baton to the US which boycotted the summit.
